Two A.M. Phone Call
Yancy Edwards knew when he began his Ph.D. studies that he’d soon be working into the early morning hours frequently. What he didn’t anticipate was the 2:00 a.m. phone calls from an undergraduate struggling to make it through the college experience.
“I tutored many students, and my undergraduates have always come to me for advice, but this one was working full time while going for his bachelor’s degree. He wanted to drop some courses.
“I encouraged him to get through it. He’d call me at 2:00 a.m., and I kept him motivated. He often said, ‘If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t have made it.’”
All the while, the rigorous life of a doctoral student was posing its own challenges for Dr. Edwards. And, he says, “If it wasn’t for The PhD Project, I wouldn’t have been where I am now, either.” Where he is now is at Sogang University in Seoul, South Korea.
The dream continues…
Dr. Edwards’ research involves building models that are more insightful and predictive of consumer behavior. These insights are used to develop and improve product development, promotion, market segmentation, and target marketing activities. He has published three articles, presented at six conferences, and has several works of research now in progress.
